Girls Skate

We started skateboarding lessons last month. Sharne, the founder of Girls Skate South Africa built an amazing private skate park at her home. *so cool! We go on a Sunday morning. At first only Jaime and I went to the lessons. After two weeks Carol decided that she would also like to join us for lessons. Carol hasn’t been on a skateboard before this and so it was really fun to have her join us. Jamie also seemed quite excited to have both her Mamas with her. We each have a skateboard and safety gear including elbow pads, knee guards,…

Adoption Update August 2021

On August 4th, DSD contacted us to let us know that the adoption registration confirmation letter was ready for collection. We drove the same-day to Pretoria to collect it! On the letter it is addressed to Mr and Mrs Koffman. Other than that everything else is correct. SA is still in a level 3 lockdown. The Home Affairs department is not processing name changes or adoption notices until lockdown 1 or 2.

Adoption update

1 year and 9 months since the court signed the adoption order, things haven’t progressed. After many emails and follow up calls, we’ve established that the court order documents were misplaced at some point. Our SW is at the court this morning to get copies signed by the Magistrate so that it has an original stamp. Let this be the time that the documents reach the right person at DSD and it is signed and registered this week. Update: 2 August 2021 We’ve been following up every 2 weeks. Last week we received a reply to our enquiry that there…

Day 16 of lockdown – South Africa

It is Saturday 11 April 2020. I do not post often, mostly because I am not disciplined in taking the time to. Here are some things that I’ve been thinking about. At the end of each month I compile a video of shorter video clips and photographs taken during that month. Yesterday I remembered that I needed to do the March 2020 video. Scrolling through photos of the first 2 weeks of March was like viewing life from a different era. Being outside freely. Meet-ups with friends. Coffee and lunch at cafes and restaurants. Weekends. Rock-climbing at the CityRock gym.…

Adoption in South Africa

Some background info We started the adoption process in February 2016. This involved several consultations and screenings with 2 private social workers. I’m not going into details about the process as there are plenty of online resources available. We were matched with our little one in February 2017. Our lives changed forever. We are so blessed. 😊 It is now 15 August 2019. We received amazing news that our adoption order has finally been signed by the court. About 2.5 years from the date of placement. We are so incredibly relieved! Our little one is turning 3 years old in 2.5…
